I would appreciate any advice on what you would like to see. I intend incorporating coffe shop lolly shop and light meals. I have never ventured out on my own before and would be grateful of any hints or ideas anyone has. I am so excited but just don't know where to start. I have the shop and am starting the renovations so from there I am looking at maybe 2 months to opening. Come on with your ideas,

  1. Usually a new business has a loss the first year. It is recommended you incorporate at Legalzoom.com at the cheapest rate available. This is usually less than $400 and can be charged on a credit card on line. Then file Form 2553 as a small business corp. You will then be able to deduct the tax loss on your personal income tax return and carry forward any loss not used in the current year. money you take for yourself is taken as a distribution and not taxable nor deductible as an expense. Good luck on your venture.

  2. Always talk to council first when setting up a food business. Get council to come out and discuss your plans and check the setup of your preparation area, before you actually spend money setting up. This will ensure that you conform to their inspections. You generally get 1-2 inspections a year.

You will need to have your Food Licence (with the council), and also a Food Safety Supervisors certificate. The certificate can be done at your own pace at home, you will need to go to TAFE for the final assessment.

    Hope this helps.
