We are opening an adult residential day care business in our home and cannot find business liability insurance to cover it. We are in Nevada and are licensed to care for 6 adults (seniors) during the day .... Does anybody have any ideas WHO we can contact??????? Thanks.

  1. If you're calling State Farm, Nationwide, etc, companies directly, you can't get it that way.  It's going to be an excess lines type policy.  You'll need to contact a local, independent agent (or two, or three) and have them shop it out for you.

They will likely end up with Scottsdale.

You cannot go directly to an insurance company on this line of business.  You HAVE to use an independent agent.  AND, I'd be surprised if this comes in under $5,000, excluding molestation and abuse coverage.

Likely, you ALSO need property coverage.  If you're running that kind of business in your home, that's a huge increase in exposure on your homeowners policy, and they're going to cancel you.  You really need commercial property coverage to cover your house and your stuff that you use in the business.  Of course, it's more expensive than homeowners coverage, but at least your claim will be covered if  one of your clients accidentally burns down the house.

  2. Home insurance covers lots of different things. I'm not sure about Nevada laws and regulations, so I suggest you call a nearby homeowners insurance agent. http://www.usinsuranceadvisor.com/Home-I... They will be able to help you.
