I am organising a 30th Birthday Party and want it to be fancy dress. Any ideas on a theme?

Beach party - people can come in their swimwear, or old, victorian bathing suits, shorts and t-shirts, Hawaiian stuff - all that kind of stuff.  You can make a sand pit, a beach bar, palm trees.

Or go for 80s, 70s, 60s themes.

Throw a masquerade party! You can either have people dress in period clothing or you can note the dress code calls for cocktail attire. What could be more fun than cocktail dresses and masks?

how about a cocktail theme and ask everyone to dress up a bit and bring a bottle.

Or go retro and have a school thene. People can dress as schoolkids and play games from childhood, from pass the parcel to board games.

Why not have a Red Carpet party. Everyone shows up dressed to the hilt on the red carpet. Tell everyone to come as their favorite movie star, that would be fun!  Have diposable cameras for your guest to take pics for you, like they do at weddings sometimes. Have a flashing strobe light when the come in, so the feel like the poparazzi is out there! Have fun either way!

Black & White.

Decorate in only Black and White and allow people to only come wearing black and white.  That way IF they want to come in a tux they are ok and if they want to come in a white t-shirt and black shorts, that is ok too.

soooo..., the birthday girl was born in 1978, why not find a band that was big at the time(late 70's) and have everyone dress as them.

That era is back in fashion too!
