I have never painted before, and I have an open floor plan living room and kitchen, and vaulted ceiling. I am painting the main parallel walls a medium to dark sage green. The opposite smaller walls and hallway a light tan color. Do you think the color scheme is okay. I have beige funiture and carpet and metal art for the wall as a center peice.

  1. I think that Green goes will with Beige...I did mine Green, Mustard color and a dark red...Looks awesome,,,Good luck

  2. Paint the high stuff first(Always)  Gravity is your enemy.  That may mean that you may have to do the large walls twice.  Count on it.  Same goes for the other colors(mind you, I paint 3 coats normally - primer and 2 color coats.)    Color scheme....the dark colors "shrink" a room, light colors make a room feel larger and more airy.     Nuff said

  3. Your color scheme sounds like it fits your furnishings. Depending on the lighting you may want to elect to go with a very white ceiling to give light it up.

  4. colors sound good- the dark colors tough you may need to do a few coats to cover evenly if you don't prime beforehand.

tips for painting- tape off all your wood trim carefully, remove all socket covers, get a good edger (flat rectangular shape with two rollers on one end is the one I like best) will work great for ceilings and around other stuff, get some bristle brushes of different sizes to squeeze into tight spots and corners, and make sure you put enough paint on the rollers each time (if you have to press hard then you don't have enough paint on there), cover all your furniture underneath too and if you're doing the ceilings wear goggles so you don't get any paint dripped in your eyes. start off doing the edges on one wall at a time then use the rollers for the entire wall then move on to the next wall.

  5. The other answers look very good. The only thing I would add is to break the project down into manageable sessions, ones that can be completed in one session.Otherwise it is likely you will end up with either several things that need to be completed at the same time or several unfinished projects.Get one thing at a time.
