  2. Yep, on top.  Lighter color on top will also give the impression your ceiling is higher than it is, essentially completely opening up your room (or entrance). Good luck with your project!!

    darker colors tie to the ground/floor and lighter colors tie to the sky/top.  otherwise it can feel top heavy and oppressive
