  3. Right now the best option is the Prius.  Studies have shown that it will make up the extra cost over a comparable non-hybrid in just 1.7 years.

There aren't many options for electric cars right now.  The Green Vehicles Triac coming out in July will be the first affordable highway speed EV at just $20k.  Like most electric cars, it will cost around 2-3 cents per mile to recharge.

In comparison, with gas at $4.50/gallon, a Prius costs 9 cents per mile, and a 30 mpg car costs 13 cents per mile to refuel.  So you're saving 10 cents per mile over an above-average American car.  If you drive 10,000 miles per year, you're saving $1000 per year on fuel with the Triac.

Another option is to keep your car, but get an electric moped for commuting.  That's what I did.  For more information on electric vehicles, see the link below.

  4. We purchased a Honda Civic Hybrid 2 yrs ago, when we thought gas prices were too high then.  We get on average 600 miles, usually more, for each tank.  Our tank holds 10 gallons.  Especially if we are cautious about our driving, our gas really lasts long, getting 45+ mpg.  One nice thing about our car, is that it tells us what our mpg is while we drive, so if we go too fast, it lets us know.

Getting a economic car like you are looking to get a economic car unless you have money saved or the cash up front those cars are costly and will cut into your pocket, and they really are lookers either if ya know what I mean. In all honesty I think you should look into a Honda civic or accord maybe even Toyota, those cars are built on good gas mileage they don't have a sign on the back showing it so you pay more for the car in the long run. I have a Honda Accord and from "empty" I spend roughly about $48 dollars on gas however I get 33 mpg and my tank may not be accurate and to to exact T but when I fill it up I then have 338 miles before fueling, so its less trips to the gas station and a Honda or Toyota will last you years... and depending on which you get they look nice too. Mine is a 2003 accord...

ps- happy looking and good luck
