I am photographing the reception only...not the wedding or the bridal party shots. I was hoping to either find a site that gives suggestions of shots to not forget or compile a list of suggestions (for example - first dance, toasts, cake cutting, etc) any suggestions would be great!

  1. Take a look through this list of photography forums and see if any grab your eye. If you're a novice I wouldn't recommend attempting to photograph a reception that will have low light- you need special lenses to get any decent shots.

  2. I would check out some photographers web sites.  Just put wedding photography in the search engine.  I would look at ones that are high end and far away from you so that you do something totally different that what everyone else in your area does!  Just look at their galleries and get some ideas.

At my cousin's wedding, there was a pic taken at the end of the night with my aunt sitting in a chair next to my uncle, high heels in hand, ner feet in his lap and he had his wallet out showing it was empty.  It was really cute and funny.

stuff like that is always fun later.

here r some that i found....

Try those...I saw some REALLY cute stuff!!!

  3. I'm a professional wedding photographer.  You won' need a list for the "normal shots".  Reception photography is quite a bit different form formal posed Bridal Party shots and should be shot from a photojournalism type of view.  Simply recording whats happening on film.  Of course they want photos of the first dance, father daughter dance, toasts, cake cutting, garter & Bouquet toss...  Just keep your eyes peeled for other unique and appealing shots... like the MOB and MOG talking, the flowergirl asleep on her mom's lap, a bridesmade with her dress stuck in her pantyhose.  hile everyone is seated walk around and take a shot of every table, that way they'll have shots of everyone who was there.  .....OH... and don't consume any liquids.... LOL... it's my personal experience that just when you have to slip out to use the restroom, the bride wants a shot of something!

  4. Are there any shots the couple particularly want? I'm assuming that they've asked you as a friend rather than as a photographer, so they're not having you do this so that they can get pictures in your unique style, but rather so they have the pictures they want.
