If you're going to live permanently in Spain you'll need a permit of residence. If you also want to get a job (legally), you'll need a "permiso de trabajo". Ask your embassy, anyway.

A passport, birth certificate, and your social security card.  BUT keep in mind that you might want to have several copies of your birth cert. that are originals.  Then make several copies of your passport just in case anything happens to yours you have a copy to take to the embassy.  Tey have a different plug for electric you will need.  It is an adapter for your plug.  We lived in Torrejon, Spain from 1990-1992
