into it also changing the suspension, brakes, gearbox but leaving it looking like a S****y 1.1 just to annoy the boyracers how difficult would it be to fit the gti engine?

  1. Fitting GTi parts to a standard 205 would be very straightforward, but as stated above, your insurance would then be the same, if not more, than a standard GTi.

If you fancy a GTi, try looking at classic insurance, which can be very cheap and these cars will now qualify for, and just keep the car as stock looking as possible.

If you have a bit of time & enthusiasm, and can be bothered to look, there are many cars which are a lot quicker than people give credit for, and therefore don't attract the prices or insurance premiums of other cars of less performance.

A Peugeot 1.9GTi cat produces 122bhp & is in insurance group 14. It will hit 60mph in 8 seconds.

Something like a Rover 25 diesel produces 111bhp as standard, it'll hit 60 in 9 seconds, return over 50mpg average & is in group 8.

    Add a rechipped ECU for £100 & you'll get 140bhp, 60 in 7.5 seconds, and still 50mpg & cheap insurance!

  2. Buy a 205 GRD diesel. They are far faster than most boy racers cars. I know it sounds daft but the 205 diesel is a superb engine. Mine's nearly 20 years old and it can still blow the boy racers off the road.

  3. You are a dreamer. If you can't afford GTi insurance, how will you be able to afford to insure your Gti engined car? You need to grow up as your motivation for this 'project' seems very juvenile and based on jealousy.

  4. Sorry dude but you are living in a dream world! When you take out insurance they will ask you if the car has been modified in any way, obviously if you say the car has not and it has a GTi engine, the policy will be invalid and you will be driving without insurance.

As far as the job is concerned, you would need to change the gear box (Gearing for a 1.1 is to low for a GTI), brake callipers on the front, shock absorbers (GTi has thicker shocks than a 1.1) etc.

    Ja.

  5. waste of time and money just buy the standard gti.cheaper to but the gti outright

  6. I have the same car, does it not annoy them as it is? I have a 1.1 and with a bit of choke I can pull away faster than any chav in any Corsa or Saxo. It's so funny to surprise them at the lights. Just have fun with what you are driving and stay safe and don't let the chav boy racers influence your driving unless you need to swerve or stop because they can't drive for toffee. The 205 knocks the socks off of any chavved out hatch! Goodluck!

  7. (see top answer)

You will have to put the engine management system and engine wiring harness from the GTI for the engine to work.
