I know that there are several sides - Pacific, caribbean coast, San jose vicinity.......I would like to do some site seeing and perhaps fishing. Which are the best parts to go to? Are there more than one airport there? Can your drive through the whole island in one day? I would like to maximize my 4 days well.

Any advise / recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

  1. Personally, I liked the Caribbean coast the most; I just got back from a three month trip thorough Costa Rica, and I have to say Tortuguero (spelled wrong) is one of the most amazing places in the world. However, it all depends on what you plan to do. Heredia is nice, (that's where I stayed for the three months) and I would recommend going for touring Cafe Brit but it is a rather large city, with a good amount of clubs (college kid, speaking from experience, of course) Manuel Antonio is rumored to be a good spot for fishing, and borders an amazing national park. For surfing, there is Jaco, Cauita (one of the most laid back places in the world, it is a great place to unwind and hang out, and the few tourists there are Europeans) I would also recommend visiting one of the many volcano's, they are truly a sight to behold. There is one major airport I know of, in San Jose, and I doubt you could drive from one side to the other in one day, the roads aren't the best. Anyways, whatever you chose to do there, you will have fun, Costa Rica is as close to paradise as most people will ever achieve

  2. The first thing is CR is not an island, Might I suggest going to a library or bookstore and reading either Lonely Planet or the Moon guide books. 4 days ...from San Jose take a Sansa or Nationair flight to Liberia in the Guanacasta Province. Lots of resorts there with lots of tours. Pick a town ie Playas del Coco, Hermosa, Tamerindo etc find a place to stay.Taxis from the airport to Coco are around 35$ US. Rainy season right now so there will be lots of vacancies.Good beaches in this area, some excellent restaurants, night life etc. Fishing boats are available...they are advertised usually in local bars.

  3. Hi Bekky,

I just got back Tuesday, spent six days there, and you can do a lot, but not enough! I want to go back right away, but what I've noticed, some good fishing and beach areas are Jaco and Manuel Antonio, they've also got great beaches. You must see the Arenal Volcano and do the Tabacon Hot Springs Tour! OMG! and if you're a coffee lover, go to Heredia and go on the Cafe Britt Tour, good coffee packages too.

Hope that helps and enjoy your trip!!!
