Can someone advise whether the roads are likely to be open at this time of year? We are planning on travelling across the range on the D918, D921 & D934.

  1. The largest portions of these roads are open year round, only mountain passes may close if there are dangerous weather conditions. Right now a small portion of D918 is closed.

Here is the website where you can check which mountain passes are open or closed. Look at your map first and determine which French "départements" you will be riding through. http://www.bison-fute.equipement.gouv.fr...

They say the live info in English will be available soon but it's out there in French if you can get help in French.

What you can also do is go to http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamichelin... and enter your itinerary with today's date. Normally they should not give you directions including a closed mountain pass. Then try the same itinerary again with a date in April and see if they suggest the route through the pass.

  2. Millies answer is excellent, so I have no need to repeat the same information...I would just add another place you could look up info on your 3 routes:

    www.mappy.fr

It is as good as viamichelin, and might have a different version more to your needs...

April is usually a lovely month for travelling, with the spring weather starting to make flowers bloom everywhere...

    Hope you enjoy your trip!
