my parents have a house down there and they are very adaptable cats and enjoy going on car rides. I would be going for 2 weeks. so it's not a matter if they will be able to handle the trip it's self, I know i will need to make reservations at pet friendly hotels for the trip. I just want to see if anyone can give me some ideas on a list of things I will need to bring with me.

I have a large plastic dog crate and I can put a small litter box in there and have some food in there and a water bottle, so they can have food and water and be able to go to the bathroom, I will put a nice thick blanket in there so it is nice and comfy in there, they both can fit in there with no problem, I'll be bringing some toys and their drink well pet fountain for being there. I'll be bringing food and treats. oh yea I'll be bringing a scratch post or 2.

has anyone ever brought their cat on a long car ride for a vacation any tips or anything. any information would be greatly appreciatedd

  1. it seems as if you have planned it quite well.  I took my three dogs from Miami to Vermont several times.  Dogs and cats travel well if used to it so it should not be a problem.  what you should do is when you stop for gas take them out and let them get fresh air.  I would leave them in the crate since the highway is dangerous but put them near someplace that they can smell the grass it distracts them.  See if you could leash them you could take them out and actually put them on the grass.  they like us like to get out of the car and see and smell something different.  I find my dogs love to smell new areas.  check if they are eating mine never eat in the car so i buy them dry salmon and that gives them the protein they need also i get them doggie biscuits for their carbs.  also keep an eye on their water consumption that is very important.  when you get to the hotel stay with them awhile so that dont get nervous and you should leave the tv on for them when you go out, something not too crazy would be nice.  oh and i would definitely get them out of the crate at bedtime.
