I don't much like packaged tours. Do you think I will be able to get around, without knowing Chinese and not going on a packaged tour from place to place?

  1. China is way too big. you have to be search what interest you.  You have Beijing with great wall, forbidden city, Ming tomb, tiananmen square, Beijing Olympics etc, Terra cotta warriors in Xian, of course shanghai with the jade Buddha etc. there is also Hongkong and Macao. my December tour in china only taking Beijing, HongKong and Macao. hope it helps.... it's good to plan ahead.

  2. well i know one thing that's winter-specific: the harbin ice sculpture festival! it's really cold, so bring alotta fur!

  3. umm, which city or cities will you be staying?

  4. You have to choose, I had just 3 Weeks in Beijing+Hebei and it was to short.  For 2 Weeks in Beijing consider this:

    1. Forbidden City

    2. Summer Palast

    3. Summer Residence, some of the 8 outer temples and some of the monolith in Chengde (stay 3 days there)

    4. s**+ House (near Tianjin, about 1 hour with train)
