  1. If you are still in the planning stage then you may well have left it too late.  It is a very popular event and hotel bookings must be made very early in the year.  This can mean that you may have to book in a nearby town, e.g., Augsburg or Landshut, and travel in by train.  Another problem is that you must be seated at a table or you will not be served - that means reserving a table for your party in advance.  You do this by visiting the website of your preferred brewery.  Alternatively, you wander around until you spot a space on somebody else's table and they allow you to join them.  As for flights - I am afraid there is no option but to slog your way through the websites of the various airlines until you find the best deal.  Best of luck - I've been there four times and have loved it.

  2. My best deal to München was $380.00 but this was right after 9/11 and flights were cheap.   Persistence pays in airfare searches.  The person talking about Garmisch was right, it is absolutely beautiful, the German Olympic training area is at Garmisch-Partkirchen worth a trip to see the castle of King Ludwig  Ludwigschlossneuschwanstein in nearby Fussen.

Good luck, keep your wits about you, don't get too drunk, Munich is the most wonderful city in German for my money.

  3. I have no idea about the price of a plane ticket from Florida to Munich. My last flight to the States at Christmas from Frankfurt to Boston/Logan cost me around 625 US Dollars. I am sure if you shop around on the InterNet you can get a much better deal.

Are you traveling alone, or with someone? If you are alone, or 2 people you can still get a hotel room in Munich or a nearby town. You will pay more of course because the prices go up during Oktober Fest.

A place to sit and drinking beer. This topic alone will get you all kinds of answers! Yes, you do have to be seated to order a beer. I normally go alone so I can always find a place to sit - in the tent, or if the weather is nice(not raining) at one of the tables outside the tents. A reserved table? That is too complicated to explain here. Check out www.oktoberfest.de(in English and German) for more info.

Again if you are going alone to the Oktober Fest it is no problem and can be lots of fun!  Do you plan on drinking all week in Munich? You may want to stay in Garmisch and take the train into Munich(about 1 hour and very nice scenic ride). From Garmisch you can do a lot sight seeing, for example that castle you have a copy of in Florida.

If you have more questions about Oktober Fest(it starts in September for example) send me an email.

  4. Shop around for flights leaving from Miami, going to either Frankfurt am Main or Munich.

Expect to pay around 700 USD for a cheap regular ticket.

However, there are sometimes really good last-minute deals through LTU. See www.ltu.com . LTU is a charter carrier, bringing German tourists to Florida. They sell left-over seats about 2 weeks before the flight very cheap. I doubt that you will be able to get such cheap flight tickets during Octoberfest time, but if you cannot afford it otherwise, it can't hurt to try!

I just looked and during the time of Oktoberfest they offered a return trip from Tampa to Munich  for 392 USD one-way. Last-Minute you might get the same flights for 200 USD one-way.

  5. you might want to try other airports in Germany for a good price, as it always seems whenever I searched for flights there trying to find the best deal, it was always really expensive in munich.

  6. I went to Oktoberfest last year. Great choice in vacation.  If you are looking for cheap air fare, my favorite choice is kayak.com.  Its an aggravator (sp) that searches every travel website in seconds and gives you the cheapest airfare.  My plane ticket was $640 which was really good considering that I booked the plane ticket with less than 2 months before I left.

And the first comment was correct, the hotels fill up REALLY quickly.  If you want to stay somewhere really cheap, I would suggest camping at the local campground.  I stayed at one called Thalkirchen which was a 3 minute ride on the Ubahn and about a 30 minute walk from Oktoberfest.  I think it was around 4 euro to rent a tent and I brought my own sleeping bag.  But a warning: if you want peace and quiet at night, DO NOT stay at that campsite as it was filled with most 20-ish Aussies who were up to all hours of the night.  Myself being 20, it wasn't a problem for me :).

    Hope this helps!!
