I am planning a trip to the Bahamas in October 08. What kind of weather I should expect? Is it safe?

I went this March as a family trip and the weather was great.

But i've never been there in Ocotober. I'm sure it is fine.

We stayed at the Atlantis Resort and it was AWESOME !!! They have a really cool water park and features that you wouldnt believe. I reccomend booking a room there, and soon, because they book months in advance.

It is safe, and the people are beyond friendly. However there are ghettoish areas. We saw them when we took a taxi to our hotel. Just take a taxi everywhere and don't go wondering around the island because you might end up in one of those areas. Have a fun trip!!!!!!!! =] =]

The weather in October should be beautiful! The only thing is that it is during the hurricane season. Besides that, I would expect the weather to be sunny, there will be a light breeze, if any, and the water will be warm. During the summer months the weather is always calm and sunny. However, during the winter is it usually windy and cloudy because of the cold fronts that come through.

I'am An American that lived in the Bahamas for 5 years you colud see Atlantis from my balcony, keep in mind that to publish crime as to where tourist could have intimate knowledge of it would hurt tourisim which is the Bahamas main industry, however I learned first hand its a violent place go but stay north fo Shirley Street.

The weather in October is great - you should have no problem.  

You don't say where you're going - so as far as safety is concerned, the Bahamians are very kind and gentle people, most tourist usually stay within their resort property, which is very safe.

If you'd like to read the news for the Bahamas, and even get extended weather forecasts - the newspaper you should read online is the Nassau Guardian.   Last week they did have some safety issues near resort areas - but it's really isolated and very uncommon.

about the same as south fla.  I have been there 2x in oct.  Both times the temps were in the 80s but we had some scattered rain.

It depends on where you plan to go. The Bahamas has 700 scattered islands and October is during the hurricane season.. The northern  Bahamas[includes Grand Bahama] gets the most rain . The Central Bahamas is moderately wet[ includes New Providence ]. The southern Bahamas is a drier region[includes Crooked Island] .Throughout the year, the Bahamas is sunny unless a hurricane is travelling. Sometimes Florida and the other Caribbean islands get a storm and it does not affect the Bahamas. Most hotels will allow you to choose whether to leave or stay during a storm and plan special activities so that you can be comfortable and still benefit from your visit.

Just keep in mind it's still hurricane season. (June 1 to Nov 30th) Take out travel insurance that covers storms just in case. Most airlines if they can't fly will give you a chance to reschedule but with hotels you have to ask what their policy is.

We have traveled to the Caribbean several times in October and once we had to go else where due to storm damage and the other time we just left before the storm arrived. We had travel insurance both times.

You will get some normal showers but they pass quickly.
