My parents will be married 50 years next January.. they love Paris, so I am trying to plan a trip the third week of January 09.. but I am at a loss for choosing a hotel.. It needs to be beautiful and romantic, with a view of the Eiffel tower.. but semi-reasonably priced.. and hopefully would have an adjoining room that we can stay in as well.. there are just too many to choose from.. any help here??? I thought of Dordogne as well... but have no idea what it would be like in the winter months...

  1. You always hear about cold waves in the winter in western Europe where public transit is paralyzed.  OK, it doesn't happen annually, but why risk ruining your parents' anniversary.  I'd suggest that you travel in the fall.  It's the off season so prices are better and it's not overrun by teenage tourists. In regards to a hotel, just find something clean and nice.  You'll be so busy that you wont have much time to spend in a hotel and if you want to see the Eifel Tower, just go and see it.  Anyway, you sound like a very thoughtful daughter.  Bon voyage!  Yeah, French ppl really say that.

  2. Hi !

I was born in Paris this a lovely town but you can't get a correct hotel with a view at reasonably price.

Dordogne is very well you've low'cost flights on Bergerac Airport to the UK.

See http://www.hotel-sarlat.fr as exemple, near Sarlat you can rent a *** stars room, with the dinner and breakfast for only 60 €/person/day ! in an old hunting house of the XIIIe century with swimming-pool (not on Juanary OK !).

The weather of Dordogne is correct in Juanuary (and better than Paris !). You've to plan to visit at least Sarlat and Bergerac.

The area of Perpignan could be a good idea in Junuary. The port of Collioure is very romantic and the weather is always the best !

    Bye !

  3. I'm from the south of France, but I'd say in January Paris is much better. The reason is that everything in the Dordogne is outdoors visits, which is not great in January because of the cold. Whereas you can do lots of indoors things in Paris.

Good luck with your search, that is a very sweet idea.

  4. Paris is the best choice, especially in winter. The value of the availability of excellant public transportation and the density of things to do is multiplied when the weather is cold and you don't want to spend too much time traveling from one place to another.
