with the color, contrast, etc. etc. they want 150.00 to do this. Is this for real or is it like hooking up any other t.v.?

  1. There is nothing special about hooking up a DTV.  The retailers are offering calibration services for hefty fees, however most home users probably will not be able to tell the difference.  By the way, that cost is usually per input meaning they would calibrate video input one but not two, etc.

The biggest problems people have with hooking up a new DTV seems to be with getting a good signal into the set or confusion about hooking up external devices like DVD players.

Don't fall for the retailer's hype about needing $100 cables, the $10 ones do just as well for home digital.  For antenna issues, visit http://www.antennaweb.org and put in your ZIP code.  They will give you a list of Over The Air digital stations in your area, guidance on antennas and where to aim them.

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.
