  1. You need more than one, for a good first fact, as guineas can get depressed on their own. And I would advise two girls as boys can fight in later life.

  2. i would recommend a male guinea pig because they are more tougher than females. witch means they are more playful and aggresive witch is soo fun.

females tend to be more frighten and lazy.

  3. Male or female really makes no difference in personality. Both sexes are equally loving and playful.

Please get two piggies. They really need the company of each other to be happy and healthy.

Please also consider adopting a bonded pair from a local shelter or rescue rather than buying from a pet store. Your chances of getting healthy pigs are excellent at a piggie rescue, where the animals have already been quarantined for illness or parasites.

Here's the info you need. Read it well:

  4. oh good lord DO NOT get one.

Seriously, I got 2 like 5 years ago and I regret it sooo much.

I feed them, change their cage, I TRIED to play w/ them...I put in so much work & effort and all they do is sit there and squeal. I thought they would be more affectionate...but no. They are a pain in my asss

This sounds horrible but Im waiting for mine to expire :((

who knows you might have more luck, but I found out Im deff. not a rodent person

  5. Law L is right, unless you can give A LOT of attention to one guinea pig, get two. I would suggest getting 2 females because they usually get along better, especially if they were housed together at the pet store. We had 2 males that were housed together at the store and they ended up fighting. Not too much, but they did nonetheless. The females tend to be a bit more sickly (many of mine have had upper respiratory infections) but they USUALLY clear up with a proper dose of vitamin c drops (double the normal-the bottle gives you info on this, normal dose is 3 drops per fluid ounce). If there's discharge from the nose or eyes they will have to see the vet if it doesn't clear up in a week, as these infections can be deadly. If you want baby guinea piggies, you could get a boy and a girl, though I would recommend getting them from 2 different pet stores to make sure you don't get siblings. Honestly both boys and girls have their good and bad things. All of my females are more active than the males and love l*****g and exploring, while my males are really sweet and love curling around my neck and watching tv with me. It all depends on your personality too. And just so you know, your guinea pig will need vitamin c drops, timothy hay, and fresh fruit (not too much, too much can cause diarrhea) to stay healthy. The cage must be spot cleaned (they usually choose one corner to "go" in, this is where you spot clean) every day and all the bedding must be changed about every 7-10 days (one is usually not as dirty as 2 so you don't have to clean as often). Guinea pigs also love to hide out, so you could buy an igloo (or 2) or put large cardboard rolls or cardboard boxes in for them to hide/sleep in. Guinea pigs are frightened by loud noises and will jump if they are frightened. They "sing" when they are happy and squeal when they are in pain or want attention or food. You should also take your guinea pig in for a checkup about once a year to make sure everything's fine. Good luck and have fun with your new friend(s)!

  6. i had three piggies at one time. they hated each other. they got along but its way to much. personaly i only perfer one. because one always got picked on.  if you just give him lots of loving care. its fine. personally females are the best in my book. i always let mine run around fifteen min before i sleep. she gets her spunk out and enjoys it alot.
