  1. here is a site by yahoo that offers waiter jobs in Los Angeles! Good Luck

  2. There are many restaurants in the Pasadena area. Unfortunately, business has slowed down due to the economy according to my restaurateur friends, but it is still a good place to find a waiter job. If possible, you want to find a job close to where you intend to live. You know how the owner can call you to come in at the last moment, and traffic out to LA city can be tough.

Before you come out here, compile a list of the restaurants you intend to look for jobs at. Then hussle and call/see as many as possible as soon as you get out here. $1000 won't last long. With summer ending, business will slow down a bit in places like Old Town.

Surrounding cities with nice restaurants include: South Pasadena, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, San Marino, La Canada, Montrose, Glendale. There are also Country Clubs, Golf Club restaurants (look at a map online) and nice Hotels in most of those cities. Further out (drive it from Pasadena before interviewing) is Burbank, the Los Feliz area of LA and Hollywood. Then going into the Westside, quite a drive.

Generally, Pasadena is going to cost the same (but usually nicer and safer) to live in as Hollywood, around the same price as the surrounding cities, and cheaper than the Westside. Also, a lot of apt buildings were recently built in Pasadena during the boom, and they have vacancies, which should keep prices down. There are also lots of older buildings in Pasadena without all the amenities that will be more reasonable than the new fancy buildings. Overall, Pasadena is a much calmer place to live than the Westside.

    Good luck!

  3. $1,000 is not much to live on in LA even for a short period of time and without having to pay rent.

But, as a professional waiter, you should be able to find a job quickly, as there are no professional waiters in LA. There are thousands and thousands of restaurants, but the people waiting on tables are only doing so until they sell their screenplay, until next week's audition, until they get that recording contract, or until they get on the Tonight Show.

  4. It's great that you have relatives to stay with for a while.  It should be fairly easy to get a job as a waiter as there are so many restaurants.  If you have a car that will help a lot.  Good luck!  Pasadena's a nice area.

  5. $1,000!?!?!?!?!?!?

    HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's barely even going to cover rent!!!!

Since you said that you're staying with relatives, you'll waste it almost immediately on gas (you NEED a car in LA)

It's EXPENSIVE in LA. GOOD LUCK!!!
