    Sony HDR-HC7, HC9

    ~$700-$800.

    I presume HD means high definition... because HDD is "hard drive". And no, I would not touch a hard drive based flash memory based or DVD based high definition camcorder. They all compress too much into AVCHD.

    MiniDV tape uses HDV. Less compression = less discarded video data = better video quality.
