With fuel prices as they are, I am planning to keep my car at home and pedal to work from now on. I will be using the bicycle for around 10kms daily. What should I be looking for in the bike? Any suggestions on what bike would suit my needs? I would like my bike to look stylish and stand out from the crowd.. (something like the Hercules Ryder series).. I am 26 and 6 feet in height, and so it should suit my age too (Dont want to be riding a kid's bike).. My budget is around 10000 INR, give or take some.

Thanks,

Vikram.

  1. I was also planning to do the same, but then i decided to buy a Motor cycle.A second hand Motor cycle will suite in your budget as it will cost u around 12-15 K.I would suggest u 2 buy a MC as it would be helpful for other works also & u would also stand out from cycling people. It depends on u whether u want only Bicycle or Motor cycle.

  3. Breezer's line of bikes are the most stylish bikes I can think of, and possibly the most stylish around. The new Finesse is the finest in the world, midnight blue, and the quintesential top of the line commuter bike, with bright lights, a carbon-fiber fork, and hydrolic disc brakes. This is certainly a bike that will stand out from the crowd. Buy this if you have a big budget-- it is a bit under $2000.

There are other bikes from Breezer that are are less expensive and still very nice. The Breezer Villager just won an award for the best commuter bike in the country. All the bikes come with generator lights that don't need batteries, racks, kickstands, fenders, and everything you need for a quick, dry, safe, and stylish commute to work. Check out breezerbikes.com for pictures, you will be amazed.

  4. Hi Vikram,

I am guessing you are in India. The Hercules Ryder series is nice. I have a Ryder ACT 104. However, the 101 and the 102 have a bigger frame size which is better and retail for around 10000. Do check the site:

Personally though I would say, stretch that budget a bit and buy yourself a Trek or Firefox.

  5. Hybrids/city bikes are much nicer looking now than they used to be.  I don't commute to work so I ride a sleek Cannondale road bike...but if I did commute I would go for a GT or Gary Fisher or Trek hybrid.  They're everywhere and not so expensive that you need to worry about them being stolen.  Make sure it has a thick, comfortable saddle and front and rear shock absorbers.  Don't forget front and rear lights!  Good luck!
