  1. i dont have an anwser for you but I used to like in Tacoma, Wa. and I was on Mt. Rainier, and it was beautiful.  Waterfalls and snow.. So yes,get some boots and have a ball...

  2. In the past, there were only two options for glacier / snow climbing - plastic and leather boots. I rented hard shell plastic boots and didn't really care for them. There are also leather boots that are rigid enough for crampons but don't guarantee waterproof performance.

There is now a third option which is a hybrid of the first two - synthetic boots. They are waterproof but still have some flex. They are not appropriate for really extreme climbing but would work well on anything in the lower 48. I like La Sportiva because they fit me well. You should try some on and see what brand fits your foot and wallet the best.

    Good Luck

  3. I just climbed Rainier in July.

If you plan on climbing more, I would certainly puchase a pair of plastic mountaineering boots.  Otherwise rent them.  REIs in the Northwest rent plastic boots, but you could also get them from Rainier Mountaineering or Whittaker Mountaineering in Ashford, WA at the base of Rainier.

I have had a pair of Asolos and currently use Scarpas.

  4. either REI or EMS www.rei.com and www.ems.com
