i am planning to get a machine gun, i live in a state that allows machine gun ownership, and i want to get one for less than 10,000 dollars. should i get an assault rifle or a submachine gun? like the FNC or Ruger AC556 (automatic Mini-14), which are both assault rifles that cost less than 10 grand. Or should i get like MAC-11, UZI, Mini-UZI, or Micro-UZI.

  1. You haven't told us your interest.

    Collecting?

    Target shooting?

    Recreational shooting?

Claiming to start a terroristic threat??

Without this, no answer is possible.

  2. If I were to buy a full auto weapon it would have to be an Auto-Ordinance Thompson model 1928 and a 100 round drum magazine.

No other full auto is that s**y and well made. Ten inch barrel using .45 ACP ammo with a cycle rate of about 600 rpm. I believe I've seen them available for between $5000 to $8000 plus the $250 FFL transfer fees and back ground check.

Any HK would do rather nicely too.

While in the service I was able to shoot a M60 belt fed, now that's a good choice, but much more costly.

On second thought, a Browning BAR, M1918, with a couple of 25 round mags, would be my second choice ( maybe my first). The BAR uses a 30.06 cartridge and is super well made.

Of the guns you listed the Ruger would be my choice.

What are you planing to do?

Is it just plinking? I hope you reload "cause you're going to blow through lots of ammo.

  3. I'm a Ruger guy, so I'd say the AC556, I've heard the MAC 10/11's jam quite often, and I don't really know much about Uzi's.  The only thing better about the Uzi's/MAC's is the rate of fire, which is probably amazing, assuming it doesn't jam, and the cost of ammo, 9mm's more affordable to shoot than 5.56/.223, If I could have any automatic it'd be a 10/22,or a Glock 18,that way I wouldn't have to worry about the ammo cost, but if you've got $10K to spend on a rifle, then ammo prices probably don't affect you much. Have fun with your choice, and good luck, I'd love to put a few mags through an automatic.  PS check out the class III section on gunsamerica.com for prices.

  4. Here is a transferable FNC with a current bid of $7250.

  5. If you are buying it to shoot, the FNC is about the finest 5.56 rifle I've ever fired. The FNC will also likely appreciate in value faster than the AC556 or AC556K, because the AC models are hampered by the fact they look like Mini 14's. The more modern military looks - not to mention the superior craftsmanship of the FNC will cause it's value to rise faster. You can't really avoid the issue of value and appreciation rate when you talk about machine guns. Good Lord, If you'd bought a registered Colt lower pre-May 86 for 900$ or so, you could easily sell it for 15,000$ or more today. And prices have and will continue to rise.

MAC 10's in .45ACP are also a great investment oppertunity, perhaps one of the best. While everybody knows that the MAC10 doesn't stack up to the UZI in quality, There is the undeniable fact that you can pick one up for around 3500$. You could almost buy 3 of them for what the FNC costs. (Almost.) I expect the MAC10 .45 to appreciate signifigantly over the next decade, becoming worth between 7500$ and 10,000$ by 2018. That would make a trio of MAC's a heck of an investment, if investing is the prime reason you wish to buy machine gun(s). You would likely profit more from 2 or 3 MAC's than a single FNC. But while MAC's are fun to blast away with, they get old fast.

If shooting is a big part of the reason you want a MG, go for the FNC.

  6. I would recommend an IMI full size UZI. These are very well built SMGs and will last you tens of thousands of rounds without any significant problems. The full size UZI is fairly hefty with very little recoil and an easily controllable rate of fire in fully automatic. If you have never shot a machine gun I wouldn't recommend the MAC-11 or MAC-10 as your first gun. They are fun, but have an extremely high rate of fire that can be somewhat of a shock to a beginner and also you will have to eat up a lot more ammo to have any fun. 9mm is still pretty cheap though, especially if you can find some military surplus high pressure +P+ 9mm that is especially made for SMGs.

  7. a Thompson gun they are REALLY fun to shoot

  8. I am a fan of the Swedish K.  its a 9mm SMG.  Steyr makes a neat little uzi type weapon.  MPI-89 and MPI-69.  All under 10,000.

  9. MAC-10's are around $3000. I would get one of those and spend the rest on high-capacity mags and ammo.
