  1. Most visitors stay in or near the Ramblas or in the Gothic Quarter just to the east. This is a good base from where you can explore the city's sights see http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/places/barcelo...

  2. Some of the side streets off las Ramblas (but be careful of the medieval streets of the Barri Gotic at night).  Passeig de Gracia just north of Placa Catalunya.  Also, staying in the Olympic Village (up a bit from Barceloneta) would be well worth a try.  A whole number of new hotels, some of which very slick.  Good value for money.  Lots of nice attractions.  The city centre is only a short metro ride away, or you could get there by a very pleasant walk along the seafront.  Central Barcelona is quite compact, and lots of the major attractions are in easy reach by metro (which is very efficient).  Barcelona is a glorious city, and you will have a great time there.

  3. The Ramblas/ Gothic quarter.

One of the best city's in the world. ( I'm not Spanish) But I've travelled all over the world baring the Americas.

anywhere near Las Ramblas will be good...it's central to everything.

    enjoy !

  5. Depends on you budget and how much you want to be in the thick of Barcelona life. Popular areas include the Ramblas, the gothic quarter and Passeig de Gràçia, as well as El Born for the nightlife.

I'd be inclined to say the Gothic quarter, as it's atmospheric and you'll be close to the metro and tourist bus, as well as loads of restaurants and bars.

  6. Stay near Plaza Cataluña or Paseo de Gracia at the center of the city. Last year I spend a week in Barcelona in December, the weather was good but the city can be crowded for Christmas. I will recommended the Hotel Gravina H-10 is close to plaza Cataluña in a small street. From the Plaza you can take the touristic buses in front of the Corte Ingles. The blue and red lines can get you to the principal attractions of the city like La Sagrada Familia, The Olympic City and Monduic, the water front, Parque Guel, Miro museum, Casa Mila and others places. If you want an spectacular view of the city take the "cremallera" train to El Tibidabo a small historical amusement park in the top of a mountain. From Plaza Cataluña you can take the subways to the city and the connection to the airport. Walk at La Rambla Street and the Barrio Gotico to take the filling of the city. I will recommended La Poma restaurant in la Rambla. Remember that Barcelona is the most cosmopolitan city in Spain with lot of history, good eating and night life. Two days is a little time to see "all"the city.

    Buen Viaje!
