I only want to lay in a few areas not all over the yard. I have been reading on how to sod your lawn and it always says to lay the pieces tigtly together. Is that a neccessary step or is it okay to just "spot" sod in bare areas?

  1. when you spot cut the bare spot area to the grass than tightly fit in the sod

  2. depending on the  type of sod, st. augustine sod can be bought in plugs across the southern US and plugged in areas. If the sod is not a creeper then spot sodding would not work cause it wouldnt grow together. If the areas are not to large the soding (tightly together) is best cause weeds have a way of finding open areas between plugs or spot sodding, and it could take some time for spot sodding to grow together.make sure you know your type of grass and fill in with the same type, mixing grasses could leave you with a real problem. So if areas are not that big...sod..green side up and butt together
