  1. I live in Limerick, and those people who gave nasty answers about Limerick are gullible idiots who have never bothered to actually spend time here, it's much safer than Dublin is now. It's a really nice place, great pubs, great nightlife, vibrant arts scene - and house prices are half of the East of Ireland, but public transport is not as good. Yet.

  2. Depending on where your moving to things can be different ,Dublin is really expensive  but its starting to get really cosmopolitan ,For accomdation anywhere in Ireland check out www.daft.ie its a really good website .A good way of meeting people is to join a gym or club ,Sport is a great social interaction in ireland .The pub Scene is fun and its really not all about drink more so meeting people and having fun .Sometimes you mighten fully understand the humor but when they start `slagging`you it shows they really like you!

  3. Any Help you need or advice as to sights travel etc give me a shout and I'll try to help. Been in Ireland most of my life and if I can't help I'll know someone who does or someone who knows someone who does. Enjoy your trip.

  4. First off, the answers above are probably from other people in Europe- I live in Chicago. Live by what I tell you :)    (I am 15, and know how to get around).

Okay, first off act yourself. Dont take **** from people, because in the end EVERYONE here likes to talk trash at one point. Depending on where you live, watch who is around you. I know people hate racism, but again, I am in Chicago.

Watch minorities. Dont stare. You can get yourself into some bad ****. Trust me.

Take up working out at a health club, its a great way to meet people, do karate, etc. I do both, and working out helps your image, and Karate helps you know how to defend yourself (people may make fun of it, dont listen to them. Make sure you join a dojo with FULL CONTACT SPARRING, or take up boxing- youve gotta know what it feels like to have the **** kicked out of you, and to kick the **** out of someone).

Talk to everyone you see at your school (if you are my age) if you are older, a great place to go is a store- talk to the clerks you like- I have spoken with some good looking women this way.

ALWAYS look good, and look your best if trying to meet people. It helps.

In the end, just have a good time- Criticise BUSH! Thats always a good convo starter.

Hope ive helped, take it easy

  5. dublin is very nice city to live in, it is expensive, but, better than most of the big cities in england and scottland. good fun. will meet a lot of interesting people. weather not good, but, u will get used to it.

  6. You gotta figure that out for youself and I hope you have loads of fun doing it (and loads of money!!!) Oh and STAB city is Limerick and do avoid it, at least until you've figured out the Irish poeple.

  7. stay where you are

  8. Go to kerry and west cork prob the most beautifll parts of ireland

if you want any info just contact me ill try to help you out!!

  9. I think you should take an extended holiday first then you would know if you really wanted to live in Ireland before you sell up in the US. It has changed a lot in the past few years. In fact it is very like America now. There are still some beautiful places but it is soooooooo expensive to buy a house. I don't want to put a damper on your plan just think that you would have a better idea of the place if you had a short stay first. I hope it works out for you. shur maybe you are a millionair and money is no object, then go ahead and do it .You will be able to pick and choose where you live and you will be on the pigs back. Lots of luck..

  10. Take lots of rain gear.

    Take lots of long underwear.

Make sure you can purchase your shoes & clothing online from your regular sources.  The stuff available over there is not like the stuff you're use to here in the states.

Housing is extremely limited & expensive.

  11. Bring lots of money everything is so god-d**n expensive and I mean expensive Dublin is the worst. Doctors dentists, grocery and the alcohol all over the odds. The streets are full of knackers wanting your money or your f**s and dont start about the gangland wars or the drug problem. Other than that its very beautiful and nothing beats a good old pint of Guiness.

  12. First come as a vacation. If you happen to find a job here, then there are ways to stay, but its getting harder since the east Europeans were accepted into the EU and are flooding to fill the jobs not taken by Irish people. However, many hotels are still willing to file the immigration paperwork for interested North Americans because their English is much better than Europeans. There is a shortage of receptionists, for example. However, if they file paperwork you may be stuck in low paid work for up to 4 years because it costs them a lot of money to file you.

I would advise avoiding the big cities like Dublin, Cork and Limerick. Galway's not bad. Your best plan is to aim for small towns, especially in the west and north west of Ireland. People will accept you and help you more. There are a lot of USA people resident in Ireland to show you around and make you "feel at home".

Despite rumours in the USA, there's hardly any discrimination against USA people in Ireland as long as you focus on blending rather than be pushy, loud and saying how things are done better in the USA. It is often a bit slower to get things done here, yet there's far less stress.

  13. no dont go to ireland come to scotland it rains more here

the booze is cheaper as well

  14. Avoid STAB city.

  15. Stayn the states Ireland is a rip off at the moment youl pay threw the nose for everything......rip-off republic

  16. If you don't Drink join a social club like hiking it is a great way to meet people.

If you do drink social options can be hectic and expensive.  In Ireland we Drink like Fish. but you will not believe the price of drink.

If someone is going to the bar and asks you if you want a drink you are usually expected to buy them a drink in return it is called a 'round' of drinks. it means that you do not have to fight your way to the bar each time you want a drink. be aware that this leads you consuming much more alcohol than you planned for that evening. by drink 4 you have effectively become a passenger to the round system.

Lots of non nationals so you should meet loads of people in a similar situation.

It rains a lot in Ireland if you are living in Dublin try to get to west coast to see Kerry Clare (esp the burren) and Galway.

Plenty of Americans and Canadians around so you should be ok.
