  1. good luck and good bye!!

  2. I think for Montreal, you have to know some basic french, because it's a french speaking city, but in Toronto it's all english, and you can visit the CN tower or Roger Centre

  3. make sure you can get your citizenship, work visa and be security cleared too before coming and applying

  4. In Montreal there is a shortage of finance people, I guess that should help you to find a job. But like everywhere, many employers are reluctant to hire people with no experience at all...

    If you're ready to learn (or already know) basis of French, Montreal is to consider. Maybe you should visit a few days each of them, it will be a better way to make your own idea from your feelings, the atmosphere, etc. Both cities are pretty different.

    Note that if you look the $, Montreal offer less than Toronto, but cost of living is accordingly, a little bit in favor of Montreal actually.

    Taxes are higher than in CA, but many services here are cheaper than in USA or even free (like a good part of scholarship, health care...)

  5. No matter if you only want to scrub toilets, if you cannot speak French forget Montreal and especially if you have an English name.

  6. Toronto

    work as a teller while you get your MBA in finance

  7. Please make sure you have a legal way to immigrate and work in Canada. You can read over the requirements for the Skilled Worker immigration route and take the test to see if you qualify.

    http://cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skill...

    From the website:

    "    *  You have at least one continuous year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment.

        * Your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC).

        * You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

    Your application to come to Canada as a skilled worker will be assessed on six selection factors and a point system. The six selection factors are:

        * your education

        * your abilities in English and/or French, Canada’s two official languages

        * your experience

        * your age

        * whether you have arranged employment in Canada

        * your adaptability.

    Number of

    Family Members

    1

    Funds Required

    (in Canadian dollars)

    $10,601"

    If you do not meet the minimum requirements and do not have arranged employment in Canada then you would not be able to move here.

    You could however, do your MBA here on a student visa fairly easily and then after graduating you have the opportunity to apply for a 1 year work visa with possible extension to apply for Skilled Worker immigration. You would have to pay the fees for international tuition, but should be able to get some loans to do so in the US.

    If you plan to work with the public then I would suggest Toronto, if you are not fluent in French Montreal would not be an option. Public service jobs such as banks require employees to be fluent in French.

    Good luck!

  8. Most of the major Canadian banks have their head offices in Toronto, and so you would probably want to look there in terms of a job in finance first.

    As others have suggested, make sure that you have your paperwork in order to work and live here.  Ideally, you would want a job offer from either a bank or accounting firm before coming here, so you don't end up wasting your MBA as a waiter at some restaurant in Toronto.

    And also keep in mind that Toronto and Montreal are both very different from California. Their climate is much colder than you may be used to, and taxes are probably much higher.

    In California, you would mostly hear English and Spanish. In Montreal, it is mostly French with some English. In Toronto, it is mostly English with significant numbers of French and even Mandarin (especially around Markham area).

    If you are completing your MBA in Canada at one of our universities, your student visa should let you apply for a student work permit to do some part time work in order to help pay for school. Check the CIC website below to be sure.

  9. There are plenty of people who live in Montreal that do not know how to speak in English and manage very well.  The city is bilingual.  Yes, it is useful to know some French but you can learn quickly.

    There are internships available and they offer training.  You can look on the websites of the different banks in Montreal and Toronto.
