  1. dump everyone of those brands, there all c**p for home theater, including sony, unless your just buying a sxrd tv or blueray player.

for 5.1 cinema get a yamaha, denon, or onkyo unit. depending on your budget you will find something from each of these manufacturers. all have sturdy designs, high current output, lots of inputs and outputs, easy to use.

for speakers buy seperates, not bose. if your budget conscience try polk or jbl. if you have alittle more money to spend go with definitive tech, klipsch, energy to name a few.

try to stay away from home theater in a box systems as most of them sound like they are still in the box

  2. Well, the problem is most of those brands are not major players except Sony. And sony:

    - Makes great TV's and DVD players

    - Makes a few good AV Receivers, and a lot of crappy ones

    - Has crappy speakers

I would stick with Dennon, Yamah, Kenwood, Sony for theater systems.

No matter what you get, make sure:

    - The receiver is a separate, big box with lots of spare inputs

    - The subwoofer is a separate, self-powered unit

    - The DVD player is separate and NOT built into the receiver

    - The speakers are monitor style black cubes and not plastic, skinny high-tech looking junk

  3. klishp!

  4. What ever you buy make sure the receiver has plenty of power so when you get tired of the crappy speakers that came in the box you can upgrade to good speakers.  I bought a Yamaha system after I graduated from high school and I keep upgrading speakers when i can afford to do so.  This year I added a Klipsch sub 10 and 2 F-3 speakers.  I would go with a Yamaha receiver if I were you.

  5. which ever one you get also get a optical cable to go from the cable/sat receiver for 5.1 from you cable / sat

  6. Never heard of those brands except sony.

So I would have to say Sony.

But other suggestions which would be even better.

    Receivers --->Onkyo/Integra, Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer

    Speakers--- >Definitive Technology, Klipsch,Polk, Boston Acoustics,Atlantic Technology.

  7. Denon
