  1. Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service

Type AQIS into a search. This is what it brought up for me.

Bringing Cats and Dogs and other pets to Australia - DAFF

Cats and dogs entering Australia must meet all of the AQIS import conditions prior to export. This is to ensure no exotic diseases are introduced into Australia.

  2. Fees for Government quarantine service for Cats & Dogs:

Quarantine entry, Inspection & Documents: $108

Transport to quarantine station: $95 or $120

    Daily rate for the first cat - includes food and care - $13.55  (30 days = $406.50 + $108 + $120 = $624.50)

    Daily rate for the first dog – includes food and care - $17.55  (30 days = $526.50 + $108 + $120 = $754.50)

There are Three Quarantine Stations in Australia.

    NSW, Victoria & West Australia.

I have seen a airfare figures quoted of about British £2,500 for two dogs, not sure what it would be from Canada.

If you wish to import a cat or dog into Australia, you need to apply for an AQIS import permit via the Live Animal Imports Program, however, different import conditions apply for the importation of disability assistance dogs.  An Import Permit currently costs $180.00 for the first animal. (April 2008)

An import permit does not guarantee a space at an Animal Quarantine Station, make sure you book a space as soon as possible.

  3. You will be able to take them with you, I think they go on the freight plane in a pet carrier. You will have to take them to the vets and get all of the vaccinations they need, I think they cannot travel overseas if they have heart worm or something like that. It will probably cost  fair bit of money to ship them over but it will be worth it to have them living with you. We were going to move from Australia to New Zealand and for our 15 kilogram mutt was $300 Australian and for our at the time 20 kilogram Rhodesian Ridgeback it was about $500 Australian dollars.
