I am pleased with my form, says Alastair Cook – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, Team England’s ODI skipper, is rejoiced to have led his side to claim a comprehensive victory against the World Champions, India, in the 2nd ODI played yesterday, September 6, at the Rose Bowl. He is happy with his batting form,
which has been a big help for the English throughout the ongoing series.
Yesterday’s triumph of the home team was owed to Cook, who led from the front and scored 80 off 63 balls with the help of 5 fours and a six to win the game by 7 wickets.
Due to the rain-led delayed start, the match was reduced to 23 overs. Batting first, Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 scored 187 for the loss of 8 wickets. In reply, the English chased the target down in 22.1 overs convincingly.
It was Cook’s maiden victory against India as a captain. The leader has lauded his players and the pitch for the success.
Talking to the media in a post-match press conference, Cook said, “I am pleased with my form and it shows the kind of right work I am doing. There is still huge amount I can improve. Hopefully I can keep doing it.”
He further told, “We thought it was a fantastic wicket to bowl given it was under cover all day and night and it was raining and cloudy. But it didn't do anything and just skidded on nicely.”
At one point before the start of the match, Cook made his mind not to play as he had never done so well in the shorter format like T20 but he had to pad up as there was no other option.
He stated, “That was mentioned (in the dressing room) but in one-day competition, you are not allowed to bring in new players.”
Cook, since holding the reins of the team’s ODI wing two months back, has been in great form and he aims at making the Poms world’s No 1 team in this format too.
The 26-year-old left-handed batsman has played 72 Tests, 33 ODIs and 4 T20Is so far, scoring 5868, 1240 and 61 runs respectively.
It was Cook whose tremendous 294-run knock in an innings steered his team to win the 3rd npower Test against India.
