I had a Transvaginal Ultrasound today and the gestational sac measured 5mm. Last week I also had a T.U. and we could not see a thing so I know we are moving in the right direction. Doctor confirmed it is NOT ectopic, YAY!!! He also scheduled an appointment for 2 weeks and states that is when he will tell me my due date. I am so curious... Am I to disregard initial due date based on LMP? This is my 4th pregnancy.I have a 10 year old and a 6 six year old with a miss in between. This is a new Dr. and he does a T.U. every visit for the first 12 weeks. This process is new to me.

  1. You would be 5.6 weeks pregnant...At least, I would assume that. but if he said that he would tell you your due date maybe not...

  2. Congrats to you!

To figure out the gestational age using the gestational sac"

"Gestational Sac: Gestational age = 4 weeks plus (mean sac diameter in mm x days). This relies on the growth of the normal gestational sac of 1 mm per day after the 4th week of gestation. For example, a gestational sac measuring 11 mm would be approximately 5 weeks and 4 days gestational age. (4 weeks plus 11 days = 5 weeks and 4 days)."

    So for you, 4 weeks + 5 days = 4W5D

You would not see the fetal pole at this point, and you may not see the yolk sac.  Check out the website I have provided...it has good info on first trimester ultrasound scans.  Best wishes!
