  1. Start taking prenatal vitamins(either over the counter at Wal-Mart or get them from your doctor). Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and anything high in calcium.

  2. do not go on a diet..you can still excerise but you need to ask your doctor what kind you can do...eat healthy foods...take your prenatals...dont drink to much caffeine..you can have soda here and there...drink plenty of water and milk.

  3. Keep asking questions to the docter & do everything he says to do & also take pregnancy classes & breast feeding classes.

  4. Start on pregnancy multi vitimans (i used Elivet)

    stay away from deli meats

    processed food

    pre chopped food

    BBQ  chicken

    soft cheeses

    high mercury fish

    + more

so basically if you wanted a fruit salad from the shops they advise against it because it has already been cut and when food has been cut and been sitting there it contracts a disease called listeria...

Google listeria and find out the effects it could have on an unborn...

I know soeone who ate deli meats, and basically whatever she liked... she ended up having her baby boy @ 32 weeks still born because of listeria.

At your check up at the hospital you should get an information packet that actually gives you the things not to eat etc.

I stayed away from all of it.... i had no complecations troughout pregnancy or even in labour... smooth as..

It may sound silly but are you willing to eat one piece of deli meat and have problems.... its so hard to resist let me tell you, but it is all worth it in the end...

  5. stay away from caffeine its especially important during the first trimester.

  6. For vitamins and supplements, consult your doctor.

On what food to take, there is really no special diet. You can eat anything until on your 16th week of gestation or 4th month of pregnancy. Beyond that, I suggest you take it easy on the sweets and salty foods to prevent water retention and any further complications like high blood pressure. Indulge on fruits and vegetables like banana, it helps a lot on preventing muscle cramps. Also, try to take it easy on the carbohydrates intake.

Totally avoid smoking and drinking as this may harm the baby's development. Drink plenty of fluid like water and juice. Drink milk for pregnant women like Anmum or Gerber Mom, it has plenty of folic acid that is essential in the baby's development.

Having a stable emotional state is also important. Everything that the mother do, hear and feel is also felt and heard by the baby inside the womb. It becomes part of their personality. Instrumental music, reading  books and talking to your baby is also good.

Exercise is good. Try to avoid sitting down or lying down most of the day as this also cause water retention. A 15-30 minutes walk every day makes a big difference. Ask your doctor for some exercises that pregnant women can do. Exercise can help ease labor and delivery.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Clothes that are too tight and shoes that are too high is very unlikely.

Hope I was able to help. Goodluck.
