Here is my situation.

Im a Russian/Jewish 12 year old boy. My grandparents are the ones the teach me much advanced mathematics, however less English because of my grandma's hectic schedule and my grandpa's inability to speak English. I am pretty good in mathematics, usually getting one, or no question wrong on the 25-30 question practice tests. However my English is not as strong. I can get up to 4-5 questions wrong, mostly when the question asks for synonyms of a certain word. Do I have a chance at Stuy? Can anyone give me some websites to improve my english? Tips? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

(P.S My older brother (Who is now 21) got into Stuy and was similar to me, and I really don't want to be the black sheep who won't be able to live up to my brother's legacy)

  1. Take an "English as a second language course. Depending on where you live, some middle schools offer it. Good Luck.

  2. I would suggest reading more difficult books. When i prepped for the SHSAT, the teachers always told me to read more books to improve your vocabulary. and if you are taking a practice test and you get a question wrong because you didnt understand the vocabulary, you should check the dictionary.
