Granted these have been at local Casinos but the competition is always very good. This is a serious question so please treat it as such and give me some good suggestions. I barely make enough money to cover my bills but I know that I have the talent to win or place high enough in a big Vegas style tournament to earn some big money. Where could I possibly look for a sponsor to cover my buy-ins and split my winnings with me?

  1. There are sponsors out there but the action is based upon online play and it's sit and go based.  The reason is that they want to get you to prove your worth before they will bankroll you.  They check your results out with software that is readily available and tracks your results based on your player name.  Then if you cut the mustard you can get bankrolled.  As far as brick and mortar poker rooms it's a matter of having personal contacts and a way to prove your winnings.  Most people though would say if you're that good you shouldn't need the help and just be more patient and work your way up the ladder on your own, and that wouldn't be bad advice actually :)

  2. If you are winning at your local casino, you must be building up both a bankroll and a reputation. Keep building your bankroll until you have a good sized partial stake. And keep building your reputation as you do it.

Contact your local casino host where you play and let them know what you would like to do. Be sure to let then know you are willing to put up some of your own money! Don't just look for a free ride, that usually will not work. Create a plan to play in the 2009 WSOP,  and ask the casino host to help you with it, you may just get a surprise, if you are as good as you think you are!

Your casino host may have some contacts, or know someone who does, also they may have some affilliations in Las Vegas for their players who visit there.

Don't expect any kind of a generous package from a backer/sponsor. They will take the biggest share they can get.

And also keep in mind that although the competition locally may be "very good" it will not compare to the competition in the major tournaments.

  3. just start out online, and build up your live bankroll through that.
