Pakistan’s new bowling coach, Mohammad Akram, has expressed that he is honoured to have been given a chance to work with Dav Whatmore, who he thinks is one of the best coaches in the world of cricket at the present moment.
Whatmore, the former Australian Test cricketer, was given a full-time role with the Green Shirts earlier this year, replacing the interim coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohsin-Hasan-Khan-c77595. Pakistan won the Asia Cup 2012 under Whatmore’s guidance but failed
to deliver the goods during the tour of Sri Lanka.
The former Aussie cricketer is presently assisted by Julian Fountain, the fielding coach, and now he will have Akram to help the fast bowlers. The former Pakistan cricketer has taken Aaqib Javed’s role, who resigned as a bowling coach
earlier this year.
Akram’s first test is going to be the upcoming limited-over series (three ODIs and three T20s) against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758
in September/October.
The 37-year-old former Test fast bowler revealed that he does not plan to make massive changes in Pakistani bowlers’ techniques during the first tour, and will just observe their progress initially, which will help him understand
their strengths and weaknesses.
The Islamabad-born cricketer rates Whatmore very high and is of the view that he will learn a lot from the experienced coach who led Sri Lanka to the title triumph in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 1996.
"The series will be a diagnostic series for me to observe and understand things. I am privileged to have Whatmore, who is a complete institution himself, in charge," he said.
Akram further stated that having worked a number of great cricketing minds in the past, he vows to utilise all his experience for the betterment of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket.
"In my playing days I've worked with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 and learnt a lot from their coaching techniques and strategies. I am not going to make it complex, it is always better to have it simple."
