Question:

I am questioning the Cubs' ability to score runs?

I am beginning to think that the Cubs are getting a little more fundamentally dumber and more dumber on offense, because they don't know how to execute on offense.

What I'd really like to know is what's really, really, really wrong with the Cubs' offense?

Do you think the players are to blame for the lack of offense?

Can something actually be done to improve the Cubs' offense?

  1. I think it's becoming a matter of pressing a bit too much. I think that maybe they were all trying to pick up some of the slack when Soriano was out, and it showed with their impatience at the plate. The reason they were scoring runs before was, in my opinion, a result of waiting out the pitchers a bit more, getting ahead in the count, and looking for a pitch to drive. Lately, they seem to be a bit overanxious, which usually means you end up behind in the count, or swinging at a bad pitch.

(Of course, it doesn't help too much when you have Ramirez and Soto, your number 4 and 5 hitters, go about a collective 0-40.)

Hopefully they can turn it around. Kind of sad when you get beat 3-2 with both your runs coming in on solo home runs.

  2. Well they are slumping offensively but at the same time their lead in the NL central is getting smaller and smaller.

  3. well the Cubs are............. the first NL team to reach 60 wins so i thi.....nk they can score runs

  4. It's called a slump and every team goes through them.  Their perfectly capable of scoring runs and even with the slump they're in the top of the league statistically.  Out of the entire MLB they sit in 3rd in BA, 2nd in RBI's, 3rd in H's, 7th in HR's, 1st in BB, 2nd in OBP and 5th in SLG.  I think their stats prove they are a perfectly capable offensive team.  What can't anybody understand about a slump?  It's 162 game season folks and no team is perfect.

  5. well, 60 reasons say give me reason to believe they can score runs.
