Aleksandr Kerzhakov has lamented http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vasili-Berezutski-c35922’s injury ahead of the European tournament and has urged his side to reach the later stages of Euro 2012
Zenit St. Petersburg striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandr-Kerzhakov-c4569, has insisted that he is ready to put all his thoughts regarding the domestic outfit behind him in order to focus on helping the Russian national team in Euro 2012.
The 29-year-old striker earned a call up to the Russian national team’s final 23-man squad for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine despite difficult last two-months at Petrovsky stadium.
Kerzhakov, who has scored 23 goals from 32 appearances this season, had failed to get more first team action after failing to maintain his fitness in the third league round.
Though, Kerzhakov had a flying start to the third league round after scoring back-to-back braces against CSKA Moscow and Dynamo Moscow, he failed to get more first team action due to fitness issues.
The former Dinamiki striker, who joined the St. Petersburg club in 2010, has scored 23 goals from 32 appearances this season. Kerzhakov has recently scored the equalizing goal against Uruguay at Lokomotiv stadium on Friday after
Luis Suarez had put the visiting team in front.
Kerzhakov has admitted that the Russian national team have a lot of potential to reach the later stages of the continental tournament, and urged his team-mates to prepare for the opening game of the competition against Czech Republic.
The former Seville player went on to admit that Russia will struggle defensively after losing out Lokomotiv Moscow’s Roman Shishkin and CSKA Moscow’s Vasili Berezutski due to injuries.
Berezutski is suffering from a muscle injury while Shishkin has sustained a stomach infection.
“The losses of senior players are always disappointing. Vasili has been a rock in defence. He has helped our team in the qualifying round. It’s a problem for all of us and not just for the coach.” The Russian Cup winner was quoted
