I am ready to quit my miserable job?

i've been at a job i'm miserable at for 2 1/2 years. it's equivalent to working to a sweat shop because you work many hours and not getting paid what you're worth and it's quota based. I am a recent college graduate with adequate experience but when I tried to apply for open positions within the company, I don't get a response or the boss would thwart my efforts. I felt stuck!

It frustrates me so much because I'd get depressed and sad. It's also difficult to job search because by the time I get off work, I'm too tired or I failed at the job interviews. I have decided to put money to the side to make this easier for me, because I plan to leave by the end of this month.

Am I doing the right thing?

  1. your job sounds like the last one i had..with a major company...name of the title was 3 initials...i hated it, hated going every day, hated the ppl i worked with...im college educated also and even though my boss said i wasnt up to par, he would never let me go to apply for another position in the company...until the opening was filled...i got "lucky" got hurt at work, been out of work 2 years and now that position went to Brazil..i was going to leave my job too..i didnt care if i had to work 2 part time jobs...i mean keep looking..but try and hang in there as long as you can..right now jobs are scarce, unless you want to work at whatever ... i know how you feel

  2. Hello Dove,

I feel your situation for I was right there up until Jan of 2008. I had a few dollars put up and wanted something to create income besides a j-o-b! I was led to the health & wellness industry because common sense says if you follow the "baby-boomers" you generally accumulate wealth. I now work 3-5 hours a day from home changing peoples lifestyles with information. Would you agree that new and good information could change your entire future? You already have your mind made up, all you need now is the right vehicle.

  3. Personally I wouldn't quit my miserable job at least until I find another miserable job. Maybe you could change your hours a bit. Say, take Mondays and Wednesdays of your can do days. Use those days to look for a better job. I am doing something like that now. I am a server. No high-school degree,so no college. However I was working 5 days a week 5:30am-2:00pm Mon- Fri. Was too tired to look for another job and quite doubtful that I could find anything better. So I am going back to school. As much as I hate it! I took Mon&Wed off. Now I work Tues,Thurs,Fri. I go to school Mon morn, Tues night, Wed morn, Thurs night. I have 3 boys and a fiance' and am trying to juggle the unknown. If my old behind can do it, you can too! So take a day or two off, rest...look for a better life. GOOD LUCK LIFE IS HARD!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Keep the job for now and start your own home based business on the side, when it starts producing the income needed to take care of your expenses tell your boss to kiss off and quit. It's not as hard as most people think. I have never worked for anyone and was able to retire at a early age due to a business I started from my home. My time is now spent helping as many people I can find the same success. I am always available to answer your questions and help in anyway I can.

  5. I'd set a deadline for quitting, even without a job, that's farther out that a couple weeks, maybe 6 months.  Then in that time, look hard for another job.  I know you said you're tired by the time you get off work - but you have to force yourself.  Unless you have enough money put aside to live on for a year or more, then you might be ok just quitting.

    Good luck.
