  1. IV sedation is safe and used ever day for Oral Surgery. You will be groggy for a while and will just want to go home and sleep. Take your medication for pain before the numbness wears off and you should be okay. May take a few days for you to feel like yourself again, but you should be just fine.

  2. Hello...Ok, here's the pure facts...you have nothing to be concerned about. IV's are far easier to tolerate than a ordinary shot for the flu or any other injection. Once the IV is in place the Dr will ask you to count backwards from 100...I'm betting that when you wake up and the procedure is over with you won't remember reaching 98 in the count.....For some reason to many people like to make others feel very uncomfortable about health procedures...those people have warped a mind as far as I'm concerned...and I suspect a good many of them have deep emotional problems....So...cheer up...your going to be happily surprised at how easy the entire experience will come off....pay no attention to the people who only want you to be worried because it's how they get their warped kicks....Good luck and I wish you well.

  3. Calm down it is normal u wont have any problem dont worry just think positive.

  5. I had two of mine pulled out last wed. The swelling has finally gone down (however I am still slightly swollen) and the pain is finally gone as well. Everyone reacts differently but it is sooo better to be safer then sorry. Take a tylenol (not advil) before the operation! Immediately after the procedure you will not feel any pain but as soon as it wears off BOOM, you WILL feel it. Be sure to take your Tylenol 3s and antibacterial pills  that they will prescribe you. Do the salt water rinses that will be described to you as well, they help tremendously.Be sure to have alot of soft cool foods around you. Yougart, icecream, cold soup etc. Because for the first few days that is all you are going to be able to eat heck I just graduated to eggs and oatmeal! Other than that, for the first 2 days apply an icepack to the sides of your face 10 minutes on 10 minutes off. On the 3rd day apply a hot damp cloth to the sides of the face, it really helps to bring down the swelling. Do not suck, spit,(as gross as it sounds, swollow the saliva that will form in your mouth) or do anything that creates suction otherwise you will unclog the blood clot that needs to form in the holes.  Dry socket is NOT pleasant.

Overall the whole thing isnt enjoyable at all, it does hurt and you will be in pain. But know that after 3-4 days it will be gone. Each day you will feel better. Just remember to relax and take the tylenol before your surgery, it will help out alot. You will be alseep during the whole procedure so don't be afraid of anything, you will wake up just as if you had a nap.

    Goodluck! :)

  6. it's normal to be scared. you just have to trust that you'll be fine, which you will be. calm down, try not to worry about it. it'll be over in no time. don't be scared of going under, it's much better than feeling the surgery. and good luck, although you don't need it because you will be completely fine! (:

  7. Just relax and don't stress out about it. It's nothing to worry about. I really hate dental work, so getting a surgery in my mouth was no fun for me to think about either. But I just had four of my wisdom teeth removed two weeks ago, and I can tell you that it is not worth worrying about.

They will give you a gas mask for oxygen and they also say they will give you some laughing gas. Most of the time, the laughing gas will make you feel a bit light-headed and relaxed so you won't even notice if they put the IV in you. For me, the laughing gas has no effect on me so I was completely conscious for the IV. The surgeon put a rubber band around my arm so they could see the veins more clearly and it was a tiny pinch and the IV was injected. It feels just like a small shot. You will fall asleep in literally less than half a minute so you won't even get much of a chance to see anything. The actual operation takes about 5-6 minutes per tooth. And after they are finished, it will usually take you about 10 minutes to wake up. But the whole thing really only feels like a minute.

As long as you use general anesthesia, and take your painkillers on a tight schedule, and follow your doctor's instructions on post-operative care, you will be fine. I never had any pain with the surgery, and almost no swelling. So, don't worry about it. Your stressing out is actually the hardest part of the procedure. That's what will make you most uncomfortable. But trust me, once you get into that chair and they put you on the IV, you won't even get a chance to worry about it. You will fall asleep and a minute later, you're done and out of there. Really.

    Good luck =)

  8. Yikes. I've been under once when I was like... two? But, just in case it might help, I need to get all four of my wisdom teeth pulled out soon, and I'll have to go through the same experience, so...

  9. let me make your day, my dear:

you can wake up during a procedure or surgery while under sleeping medicine, and you can feel and hear everything going on around you. but you cant move or signal that you are awake..........

    its kinda of rare though...........=]
