So i went to the Orthodontist today. They put in the spacers. My teeth are hurting but they aren't that bad they will probably hurt worse later. The Doc. had me go next door to have a consultation. I get my braces on August 25th. Wednesday they will be pulling 8 teeth! 4 of those teeth will be my wisdom teeth. I am only 16 and really scared because i know it is going to hurt. I will be taking Thursday & Friday & Monday off of school. Monday i will be getting the braces on so i will probably take Tuesday for sure and Maybe Wednesday off. But do you have any advice? Because i only thought i needed 4 teeth pulled and they were going to do that after i got the braces on but now it will be next week with 8 teeth being pulled including wisdom teeth.

  1. When I got my teeth pulled, I was extreamly nervous too. One because I hate shots! Two, because I HATE pain! But I think what makes it hurt the most is when you build up the pain in your consence to the point where you feel naucious. Thats what I did. But what helped me get through it, was my ipod. I brought my ipod and while he was doing everything, I closed my eyes and blasted my ipod all the way up. That way i could niether see or hear anything. (best idea ever). Also what that did for me was get my mind off of everything, which helped me to relax. My doctor is great at pulling teeth because the worst part wasn't even when he pulled the teeth. It was the shot, AND I DIDN'T EVEN FEEL THE SHOT!!! You may think okay, this is really going to hurt, and i would have agreed with you. The shot my sting but what my doctor did before the shot was put on a numming cream. And that helped out a lot as well. After he put in the shots he simply grabbed one tooth at a time with plyers and wiggeled really hard, the worst part is hearing the cracking and ripping of it from the gums. But the cracking sounds like the crunching of potatoe chips. I hope you liked my advice. And when you get there, just tell yourself to relax, and make sure you don't build up your tention. Just put on your head phones and blast your music, close your eyes, and think about something awesome! Like maybe the person you like or something like that.

    Goodluck!!! :)

    Hope I have helped!!!

  2. my friend has braces and it hurt a bit but then he pain went!! Now they are fine. (don't worry about it!) Just think about it when it is time to take them out you will have perfect teeth and just ignore the pain!! And try to keep your mind off school and homework if it helps, cos that probably is making you think worse!!

The dentists know how you feel and know that you are 16 and they are experienced so they would have done it before, so it is unlikely that anything is going to go wrong!! Don't be scared, just keep your mind of the bad things and think about the good things like what your teeth will be like after the braces are taken out, or if it helps don't think about it at all! Try and think about I don't know what your into if your into books and in the middle of one right now then think about what could happen next or if your into styles think about different looks on you or your fav celebrity, or even think of your fav TV program and make another episode up in your head!! <<<<< OKKK LOL!! Maybe all this is of the subject but you know what I mean just take your mind of it!!

Go to this website for info hope any bad things which there shouldn't be much of, of course don't put you off even more anyway here it is ...............

  3. Aww Jennie What can I tell you. They will give you painkillers. I hope its not too bad for you and that everything goes well with school and you end up with a lovely smile :)

  4. Getting teeth pulled is of course no fun for anyone. Often they have to pull teeth to make room to straighten them.  You should be given pain medication that you need to take 30 minutes before your due to take them again.

Look at this site and remember many of the things listed especially the tips and tricks. These things really help.

  5. I would definitely get a second and even maybe a third opinion before doing this.

  6. Evry1 does this B4 they go to the dentist:

We assume its going to hurt or something will go wrong

completely forgetting the fact that these dentist are not machines that just want to get the job done.

really they are human and the more you realize that the better you will feel. They know you're only sixteen and they do care about how you feel along with the health of your teeth. Yes, it might hurt but they've been doing this for years and they are not going to let you go through pain thats unbearable neither hopefully are your parents.

Try telling your dentist before the procedure exactly wat your telling Yahoo answers and I bet they can give you even better advice than i can

i've never gotten my teeth pulled but i do hav braces and B4 i had them i was stressing over how painful i thought it would be when the real pain was all in my head.

  7. It's okay stay calm.. Just relax they'll numb your mouth you won't feel a thing. I've had a root canal before its okay.

  8. Ouch.  I feel for you.  I had to have four impacted teeth removed at age 11 due to severe overcrowding.  Then I had to have braces put on immediately after, which I had for 3 years, and then I had my wisdom teeth removed at 17.  The good news is that even though the experience will be decidedly unpleasant, they will most likely put you completely out when they remove all those teeth, and you won't feel a thing.  Afterward, they'll give you strong painkillers to help you out.  It's natural to be nervous but try not to work yourself up too much.  You'll survive and in a few years you'll have beautiful straight teeth!

  9. The hardest part of it sounds like keeping up with all the homework.

  10. Ask your parents to get a second opinion.

  11. Yikes. I had 4 teeth pulled on the same day..god d**n it hurt. But now that my wisdom teeth are almost fully exposed, I'm glad they pulled them. I would've run out of space! Plus, if they pull your wisdom teeth now, it must be that you'll be in agony later. If you hold off on the wisdom teeth, it'll probably be a real pain to get them pulled once they're fully gown. Best to get it all taken care of now I guess.

Just make sure to ask how much local anesthesia you can have and whether or not you can ask for more. I hear sometimes they put you fully under but it's a bit much.

I had it done at 12, and my teeth were putting up an admirable fight. When the lady yanked on it, I had to hold the chair a bit to keep from moving too much. I didn't feel it as much as I thought, just the force of the tooth coming out (the noises were definitely cringe-worthy...).

The pain afterward was not too horrible but I had to put up with a lot of bleeding. I kept a teabag on either side (very attractive =/) and just waited. Mostly had soups and things because everything else killed. Popsicles and Jell-O were great too =]

BTW: the braces completely take cake of the gaps. Can't even tell now.

    Hope all goes well!
