Home many of you have adopted a child from overseas and about how much do you think I'll end up spending compared to just adopting a child in the United States?

Thanks in advance.

  1. you should be talking to an adoption agency.

    Not yahoo.

  2. I'm Filipino, so I suggest get one of us for like 10 pesos and you'll never be disappointed. You see, we're perfect in every way.

  3. Expect to pay tens of thousands of dollars from overseas. It's a really long process and you need approval from the country and what not.

  4. You need to get an attorney and talk to an adoption agency..but first get yourself a lawyer (reputable one)...

  5. This has very little to do with the money factor, and for that I apologize, but I really think this would be beneficial to you. Just thought I'd recommend you some blogs so you can be as prepared to raise a transracial child as possible:

  6. we are in the waiting stage for china right now.  when all is said in done the total time for us will have been between 3 and 4 years with paying between 20 and 30 thousand.  and just to be clear...the fees are not to "buy" a child. they are necessary for travel, gathering paperwork, paying social worker's salaries...etc...

    the process goes like this:

paper process: which is where you gather all the paperwork necessary to complete a dossier to send to china (tons of paperwork!)

waiting stage: currently for china this stage is 2-3 years. we are in the process of updating our homestudy so it does not expire during this wait.

referral: you receive a referral for your child which includes photo and medical history.

travel: approx. 6-8 weeks after acceptance of referral you travel to china for two weeks to meet and pick up your child. The children in china are typically referred from orphanages, and are mainly girls. due to the one child policy in china, many girls are abandoned. which is one of the reasons we chose china.

when you get home, there is still more paperwork to file and follow-up visits with your social worker.

sounds like a lot? yes....but I have no doubt it will be worth it. God bless you with your decision!

  7. ask angelina jolie

  8. Adopting from China costs approximately $30,000 and that is about the same as a private adoption in the U.S. (give or take a little on both estimates).  If you adopt from the U.S. foster care system, the cost can be zero or very little.

Several other Asian countries have international adoption programs, but I have not researched them like I have China.  I believe that they are all quite similar, though-if you think it would be a "cheaper" option, you are wrong.
