    Standard height and depth of a counter-top - 36" hight  25" Depth = 1" past the standard cabinet depth of 24".

    To eat from - Different question. This depends on the type of seating you choose.

    One popular option is - Bar stool seating. This raises the counter bar height at times to about 42" if your stool is at least 30" heigh with a footrest. Planning your counter-top overhang is also important to fit your kitchen layout.
