I am repainting my kitchen and I ran out of primer. Will it make a difference if I just go ahead and paint?

It was painted slightly darker than the new color. i am repainting since I did not like the first color, there is already a layer of primer underneath the first color. Will there be a differenc in color or thickness?

  1. The unprimed areas may need an extra coat to get the color the same throughout the space, but if the coverage is good it might be fine.  I'd take the risk.

  2. Yes, You should go buy more primer. The primer keeps the wall from sucking in your paint and it gives your final product a nice even look. If you dont, the color may show up different shades in spots, i'm not sure about the thickness ( it depends on how many coats of paint you put).

  3. Were you using tinted primer? If not and depending on the color, the unprimed areas may show up as a slightly different color. I did that once and wound up painting a wall three times....stick with the same materials and processes for a smooth, even look....or try a section, wait till it dries and check it from all angles and lighting.
