I am resident in the Czech Republic. How can I insure my musical instrument?

I don't want to just take out home contents insurance because this only covers my instrument while it is physically in the house. In the UK, Allianz Cornhill offer a good service specific for musical instruments, but Allianz in the Czech Republic doesn't offer this. I want my instrument to be insured against damage or theft outside of my home.

  1. Every nation of consequence has credentialed agents.

The Czech Republic is certainly such a nation.  Contact any P&C agent (Property & Casualty) agent in your phone book.  Ask that person what the title is for a credentialed agent.  In the USA that is the CPCU (Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter).  I have no idea of what it would be in the Czech language.

See if there is a specific set of listings in the INSURANCE section of the phone book for the advanced credential.  Then call the agent with the same last name as you; or the next agent in alphabetical order.  (This method keeps the first guy from fielding all the calls.)

Get the answer you need from an agent with an advanced designation.

Then you can relax and play a song for me.

  2. In the US, I know you would take out an inland marine policy in which you can specifically schedule specific items which are to be covered.  There are sections of this which would apply to contractor's tools, jewelry, and for your case musical instruments.

If there are local insurance agents near you I would call and speak with them as they should be able to give you specific information of how to cover these in your area.
