  1. If you can't deal with pain, then i don't think XC is the sport for you.

  2. Good news: Nobody enjoys pain. That is right, not a single person. However, some people welcome pain as something they have to get through because they have learned that suffering can bring rewards.

Your best bet is to use your brain to avoid any undue suffering. This means choosing intelligent training methods and sticking with them over a long period of time. This means learning to pace yourself extremely well so that you can use less effort to run faster. This means relaxing your body while exercising to allow those muscles that are used to propel you forward to work.

Running can be a painful sport. There is no escaping it. Many people feel that there is also a lot of glory in facing pain and fear and coming out the other side the winner.

If you are running so hard that you can barely move then you are more gutsy than the average runner. That might mean that it comes naturally to you. Now you just need to train your body to run faster.

  3. Wear braces on your ankles and knees

  4. Running requires a high pain tolerance (especially at first), especially if you are racing.  If you don't like to be in pain, cross country is probably not for you.  However, in my opinion, when you find out how far you can push yourself, even when you're in pain, that is a very satisfying feeling.  That's what makes running great.
