I have sanded, primed and sprayed a coffee table with glossy espresso prown paint but some spots on the surface are matte. Could I spray a glossy clear coat on it or will that go matte as well? I can't sand it because it has a design on it.

What can I do to get an even glossy coat?? It has about three coats brown paint o it so I'm scared to sand it...

  1. I would use the finest grit sandpaper or steel wool I could find, and go over the whole piece lightly, just enough to give the finish "tooth."  Then go over the whole thing with a self-leveling clear gloss varnish or top-coat (brush on, NOT spray on!).
