  1. I am 52.  I am diabetic, Type 2. I have been so for 10 years.  I am surviving ok.

Given your age, you could be a Type 2, wherein watching your diet, and taking pills will suffice to keep you in line.

If you are Type 1, then you have more worry.  You may have to take injections, which are a bit more painful.

I knew a man who was Type 1 for 30 years.

I think you must educate yourself, fear less, and hang in there.

  2. Regardless of whether it is type 1 or 2 it is a good idea to start watching you diet and keeping an eye on your glucose levels by testing.

Just because you are 12 and are just getting the symptoms doesn't mean that you couldn't of had it all along and it just getting noticed now. My sister in law was 10 before they got her checked out and now she is on an insulin pump.

My Mom went until she was well into her 30's before they diagnosed her with Type 1. Sometimes it goes undetected.

I do suggest keeping the journal on how low and high your sugars get and what you eat and then take that to a doctor that specializes in Diabetes.

This does need to be taken seriously if you do indeed get high blood sugars. Left untreated your kidneys can shut down and you can die. Not to scare you, but when tests clearly show something abnormal then your parents need to take it seriously and take care of this.

I get so tried of hearing about all these parents on here not taking their children seriously when they complain about things. Pain, symptoms, and other things all mean something and it is their responsibility to find out what is wrong and get it fixed if they can.

  3. Avoid sugar and high amounts of carbohydrates.  Eat balanced meals with whole grains at regular times.

    Losing weight helps control diabetes.

  4. Well, normal sugar levels are 80-120, depending if you have eaten or not they may be higher or lower. 12.9 I don't understand, maybe the units are different. The units are normally read in mg/dL, but if you are so worried, go to a doctor and get checked. If the thing about the units is right and you are reading your levels in mmol/L, then yes your levels are high but not as high to be incredibly worried, it would be around 232. Go to a Doctor.

  5. my dad is diabetic.its nothing to joke about.he almost died and didn't even know it!you really need to tell your mom its serious you can have it as a kid and you might just have it and if so you need to be treated fast! show her this message and stuff to show her you not joking.

  6. You should only be worried if your doctor told you that you might be diabetic, not anyone else trying to diagnose your symptoms. Who helped you check your blood sugar and what do you consider high blood sugar?  Are you overweight?
