I just asked a question about this, but i just barely googled the symptoms. Yikes.

I gained weight 2 months ago, and then just recently dropped it like that. ( i gained about 15 pounds, i lost about 15-20...all of the weight loss in a month and a half.)

I have not been able to sleep, as i have been under emormous stress (looooong story, i'll save you the time) but i always feel tired and am yawning constantly.

I get headaches sometimes. Not alot, but when they come they don't go away.

I have recently started drinking a TON of water. More than i ever have.

There is a patch of skin on my elbow that is dry and itches. This might just be sensitive skin.

I have been depressed lately, due to issues with my dad. He is a jerk...just felt like saying that =)

and lately, i have noticed that i am eating aloooot of sweets, even when i am not hungry. I just feel like i need it or something, even though i tell myself that i dont.

To me, i am half and half. It sounds like i have it to me, but then it sounds like i don't. I am kinda scared to bring this up to my mom, considering she already has enough on her plate to deal with at the moment, and i dont want her to laugh at me for thinking this.

So i have 2 (or 3, haha) questions.

1)Do i sound like i have it?

2)How should i tell my mom?

ANd since i know NOTHING about diabetes

3)Does it sound like i have type 1 or type 2?

help!

  1. You are 14 years old and your body is changing everyday. I don't believe you have diabetes. I believe you have hormones! I know that's funny and totally what you didn't expect to hear but there it is! Teens are always yawning. I did when I was a teen.

    My advice:

    1. Get some lotion for your dry skin.

    2. Get a good night's sleep tonight. If you think you need 10, give yourself 10 hours! But for sure 8!

    3. Talk to your doctor about your headaches.

    4. Your dad may be a jerk, but he's still your dad. Check the link below and see if it might help. He might even find it interesting if you print it out and show him you want to change the relationship you have with him.

    5. Stop letting your "feelings" guide how you eat and let your stomach do that work. It'll tell you when to stop!

Don't stress about diabetes and all that junk. Or, if you can... stop stress alltogether!

    Good luck and take care!

  2. i think you should mention it to your mom, it could just be stress but if it really is diabetes you need to be on treatment sooner rather than later. who ever said your growing, changing going through puberty and all is right but at the same time i know many people with diabetes who were told there symptoms were "growing pains" and later found out differently. so just be safe than sorry. it may stress your mom out if you tell her but if you don't tell her and you end up in a serious medical emergency because of it she will be even more stressed out than if you had just told her in the first place.

  3. i dunno. i have some of ur symptoms too tho

  4. Talk to your mom about going to the Dr.  They're all right, if you did have it and didn't get it treated, it would be much more stressful on your mom than if you just go to the dr. now.  I was in denial that anything was wrong with me for about 3 or 4 months.  My mom ended up taking me to the emergency room at 2 am because I couldn't walk, eat, think etc.  Just talk to her about it.  One thing for sure if you do have it, it will continue to increasingly get worse. Don't mess around, but I really wouldn't get too freaked out there are sooo many other things that could cause your symptoms.  Go to the Dr. and you won't have to worry about it.  It'll be ok. Try to get some exercise and see if that helps how your feeling.

  5. Your symptoms could be from a variety of things. I agree about the stress thing though, and depression will make you feel sick all over. With diabetes you not only have an unusual thirst, but you urinate a lot, feel tired, and crave sweets. You also would have a sweet smelling breath, and sometimes a wound that won't heal properly. If your blood sugar gets too high you can go into a diabetic coma. If it gets too low, it can kill you. The excess sugar in your system can cause heart disease, kidney disease, blindness, circulation problems, etc. So, to not say anything could have deadly consequences. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just telling you like it is. Talk to your mom. Just lay out all your fears. Overlook your dad. Sometimes you have to love people from a distance. The main thing to do is get everything out in the open. Hopefully you're ok.

I have always had a strong craving for sweets all my life. I have been hypoglycemic for over 20 years. Thank means my sugar gets too low. I could eventually end up diabetic, but I'm trying to correct things now.

         Best of luck to you.

  6. When you say you drink a TON of water - are you finding that you are constantly thirsty? Does having a mouthful of water relieve the thirst almost as much as actually drinking it?

When I became diabetic at age 30, I went from drinking 2 litres a day to something like 10 litres. I was constantly eating high calorie food because my body was craving the energy and I was so tired I could barely get out of bed. I also started getting double vision.

If you have *any* concerns you might be diabetic you need to get tested. There are very serious health consequences associated with untreated diabetes. The doctor can do it with a simple pin-prick blood test to see if further testing is needed. If there is a school nurse, they may also have the equipment to test you - or if you know of someone who has a blood glucose testing machine you can borrow theirs - just be sure you use a new lancet to prick your finger.

  7. Hey thank you for answering my question! Now, I will answer yours. I do not think you have diabetes. It sounds like your physical manifestations are psychosomatic, meaning you are so worried about possibly having a health problem that your mind forces your body to have physical symptoms.

I am somewhat of a hypochondriac. For example, I fell and hit my head once and I was convinced I had brain damage. I got a headache after not sleeping two nights worrying that my brain was damaged. I looked up the symptoms online and was convinced that my symptoms matched those online. However, I now realize that it was all psychosomantic. I never had brain damage! I was just so worried that the anxiety caused me a headache and caused me to have trouble concentrating.

Relax! You don't have diabetes. However, it would help if you went to a doctor for a physical just to ease your mind. Explain to your Mom that you are worrying about your health and you want to talk to the doctor about it. Good luck!

  8. google the symptoms... but do you get thirsty more than usual? .. is your eye sight getting worse? those are also a couple symptoms.. stay away from sweets until you know for sure.. i don't know, to me it just sounds like you're stressed , and stress could make you tired especially if you're having trouble sleeping at night because of it.. plus all the c**p you're dealing with would give you headaches.. try to tell your mom when she's in a better mood, she should be sensitive about it i'm assuming

  9. Sounds like you could have diabetes, and yes you need to talk to your mom about this, so she can get you tested asap. The doctor will be able to determine what type you have

    Good luck
