My refrigerator was on a strange setting and everything in my fridge was pretty much frozen. I had a zucchini in there and have used it in my stir fry this evening, I just ran it under hot water and it thawed really quickly.

But my friend just told me that there's a chance I could get botulism from it. Is this true?

  1. your friend is retarded. unless it came in contact with raw meat you are fine.

  2. No! Botulism grows in warm humid conditions, and it is easily killed with heat used in cooking.

  3. Francesco s and all those who gave him a thumbs up should really have to repeat /take a semester of Food Service Sanitation before their bad advice kills somebody

    1) Botulism is anaerobic and as such it thrives in zero/very low oxygen environments

    2) When botulism causes what's properly called a food borne illness is does so because it act as food intoxication and NOT a food infection

The difference is that food intoxication can never ever ever be cooked out>it stays with the product

    3) In the event that there was a trace amount of the botulism bacterium on the surface of your zuke the fact that you rinsed to off reduces your risk to zero

  4. dont worry. by cooking the zucchini you would have killed off any harmful bacteria. if your fridge was high in temperature this could have allowed bacteria to spread more rapidly but as it was frozen this effectively puts bacteria to sleep. you should take care though if you have any cooked meats in same fridge. i would throw them out.

  5. No it is not true, there was one case of botulism, this man made a bake potato he put it in foil and baked it in the oven well he didn't eat the potato until the next day and too many organism grew in it because he didn't put any slices in the foil or the potato  there was no circulation no air so all the bacteria stayed in the potato, this shut his whole body down and put him in a comer for almost a yr.

  6. not true at all no dought you are fine i am 100% sure so dont worry

  7. You'll be fine, better it to have been frozen than left out in heat.

  8. Hahaha no - your friend is having you on!  Sure its not great to have your veg frozen, but the only thing it'll really do is make them go a little bit mushy.
