Hello, I am scheduled to go to cancun on August 24,2007.

Hurricane Dean is supposed to hit. I've never been through a hurricane or anyhting like that. Does anyone know the after-effects and if the resorts will be ok? How long does it take for the hurricane to pass? Will I have to postpone my trip? Any advice is appreciated. thanks.

  1. My husband and I are also scheduled to fly in to Cancun on August 23rd and to stay a week. We bought trip insurance and we have 48 hours to cancel from the time we leave Chicago (22nd). We really do not think we are going to take the chance. If the hurricane hits Tuesday like they predict it will either cause damage or rain I imagine will follow for a few days. I don't know for sure but this would be my guess. For the money we spent we will probably cancel and only lose the 120.00 for the insurance. We really want to go though so we are going to keep a close eye on Dean. There is also another storm right behind Dean. Who knows when this will hit but who wants to take the chance. Let me know what you decide to do. We were going to stay 2 hours from cancun in the Riveria (Tulum Resort).

  2. 8am Tuesday it is forcast to be over cancun

    111-130 mph winds.

I wouldn't want to go if it does...Everthing will be torn up...Cancel!

  3. I'd cancel!! you wont even be able to leave the hotel room, dont even dream of going to the beach..

  4. My mom is in Cancun now. H. Dean is expected to impact late mon. early tues. My flight is scheduled to depart 8/22 WED. I just received an e-mail from my travel agent stating my flight may be cancelled

  5. i would postpone if i were you, until you know the extent of damages if it hits

  6. From the projected path at this time, if it hits Cancun it should be on the 21 or 22nd, and right now it doesn't look like a direct hit. Of course all that can change in a heartbeat.

Hurricane Dennis sat over Cancun for 3 days. I was to Cozumel (very close) about 4 months later and the vegetation was wiped out, but the building repairs were OK.

IF it does do a direct hit, you should be able to tell from news reports how bad it was hit. You should also have time to call your hotel/resort and find out the conditions before you leave.

If all is well, enjoy your vacation. If it's blasted,,, then you know to get trip insurance next time (trip insurance is relatively cheap).

Hopefully, all will be well and you'll have fun! Enjoy!
